2025 update about tariffs and shipping costs … FAQs
Will I be charged U.S. government tariffs on my Rabbit Hill order?
We want to share a brief update, as there have been recent changes to U.S. trade policy affecting imported goods, including vintage and antique items from France.
As of April 2025, the U.S. government introduced new tariffs that may apply to international purchases—even those previously exempt, like antiques and collectibles. While the situation is evolving, here’s what you need to know:
What to Expect
Tariffs are not always charged, but may apply when your parcel arrives in the U.S., especially for items valued over $800.
The tariff rate is typically 10%
These are government-imposed charges, separate from normal shipping fees or sales tax.
When & How Will I Be Charged?
If applicable, you’ll be contacted directly by the shipping carrier (like UPS, FedEx, or USPS) before delivery.
They may request payment for import duties or tariffs before releasing your package.
Occasionally, the carrier may pre-pay on your behalf and then send you a separate invoice afterward.
Will Every Order Be Affected?
No. The enforcement of these tariffs is still inconsistent, and many of our U.S. customers continue to receive their parcels without added fees. That said, we believe it’s important to share the possibility, especially for higher-value purchases.
We’re Here to Help
We prepare every parcel thoughtfully, using accurate customs declarations and appropriate classifications. While we don’t control how or when fees are applied, we’ll always do our best to assist you with information and support.
How Do You Calculate and Charge for Shipping?
We ship to worldwide destinations with express international shipping using FedEx or small item shipping via Standard First Class La Poste (when total shipping paid is less than $25 for your package). When possible, we can ship items together. In general - shipping fees are automatically applied through a volume estimate when adding items to your cart. Once you add one item, our site then recalculates additional items to take into consideration shipping every item together. This is done if all items are in the SAME ORDER. However - read below to see how we can help if you place multiple orders!
For fragile, multiple, small to medium purchases with FedEx.
FedEx (3 day shipping once your package has departed France):
$25 - Volume - flat envelope (normally 1 small item - not fragile).
$35 - Box volume - No. 1 - (1-3 items on average)
$45 - Box volume - No. 2 - (large volume)
$45-$100 - Box - 3 & 4 - multiple items shipped as a group in XL volume box
For Standard Post - $18 USD covers the cost of small, non-fragile items or flat items like towels or linens.
NEW in 2024 - remote location charges are added by FedEx for destinations in ‘remote’ locations where FedEx does not have a local hub or regular route for delivery. Please do not hesitate to send a message if you have questions about remote destination charges that appear for your shipping address at checkout.
Did I Pay Too Much?
On occasion, there might be a miscalculation due to a volume assessment glitch for an item. If it looks like there’s a mistake - we are happy to take a look and help! In most cases - the average cost for a shipment of single or multiple, medium-sized objects using FedEx is between $35 - $45 USD.
What if I place different, multiple orders at one time and am charged for shipping on each order?
We will do our best to consolidate all of your purchases into one box and shipment as long as they can be safely shipped together. Reimbursements for overages in shipping paid when purchasing are given as a shop credit that can be used for any future online purchase or towards future shipping charges. Don’t hesitate to send a note once your package has arrived to inquire about savings for combining items in one box.
If you frequently place multiple orders each month or during each sales event, we are happy to work with you to set up methods to expedite reimbursement or prevent regular excess payments in shipping. We value your support and that you love purchasing from us!
Will I get a shipping confirmation?
Once your order is on the way, you will get an automated shipping notification from Rabbit Hill. If your package is being shipped with FedEx, you will be sent tracking information via email or SMS as soon as your package is scanned and appears in the system. Standard Post does not provide tracking.
Loss or damages …
If your item is damaged in transit, please be sure to provide detailed images of the package (box condition prior to opening), wrapping materials, and pictures of the item that was damaged so that we can assist you in filing a claim with the shipping company used to deliver your package.
Sorry, no refunds or exchanges …
I want you to love what you have purchased as much as I do! So please contact me if you have any questions or concerns after you have received your item. Items are sold 'as-is' which means as described and pictured. All sales are considered FINAL.
International purchases …
Some countries/states/provinces will charge importation fees on goods coming into the country if the amount exceeds a certain level. This is at the jurisdiction of each state and country and is not a fee that we collect, charge or pay for you. It’s good to be familiar with how your home state and country handles purchases and taxes for items purchased from a foreign country or outside of your tax residency. (Please see the note above about tariffs. Please bear in mind that some states, regions or countries may charge import fees for packages valued at over $800, and we are happy to assist with large order questions.)
