French Porcelain Rillettes Crock
Rillettes first appeared on Paris menus towards the end of the 19th century. Also called Rilles , rillettes (pronounced ‘ree- ette’ the ‘s’ is silent) were for many years a preserve of home cooking, initially intended as a way to preserve pork meat. Later, prepared and preserved rillettes was packaged in porcelain or pottery crocks when it became a household pantry staple.

Natural porcelain with black print - 9 cm tall / 8 cm in diameter (19th century)
