Gorgeous white porcelain antique oyster plates by Pillyvuyt, France. Originating from the 18th century, oyster plates have become a quintessential element of French dining, particularly during festive gatherings.
Sold in sets of (2) plates - 23 cm in diameter - each holds one half dozen oysters and a small recessed space for ‘mignonette’ which is traditionally served with raw oysters.
Mignonette is a classic French condiment primarily made from finely chopped shallots, cracked peppercorns, and vinegar, typically red or white wine vinegar. This flavorful dressing enhances the natural brininess of the shellfish, providing a bright contrast and a burst of acidity that elevates the dining experience.
Oyster plates are an elegant testament to the culinary heritage of coastal France, where seafood has long been elevated to an art form.
