Antique ceramic water filter in the Art Nouveau style with poppy motif. 42 cm tall, 19 cm in diameter by Garros, c. 1880.
Popular in the 19th and early 20th centuries, they feature intricate designs that reflect their artistic origins. Sometimes used as promotional pieces and functional decor in pharmacies and upscale homes when the need for filtered water was both a necessity and also a luxury. These tall water crocks would have had and internal porous material filter insert (natural clay or other materials) to pass through fresh water and a spout for easy serving.
In beautiful antique condition, without chips or cracks, but recommended for decor use only.
