Antique French Copper Sauteuse

Antique French Copper Sauteuse

$345.00

For the cook who loves the idea of actually using a piece of 19th-century French culinary history. This early copper sauteuse carries authentic signs of its long working life, but has been carefully restored and newly tinned so it can return to the stove. Its smaller base and wide flared sides make it particularly lovely for slow simmering, meats cooked in sauce, risotto and sauce making.

  • 26 cm diameter × 7 cm tall; 20 cm base

  • Solid copper with hand-forged iron handle secured by two copper rivets - stunning on a pot rack!

  • Professionally restored and newly tinned; authentic signs of age and use remain. Best used on a professional range rather than electric coils or small burners.

Dating & attribution: We date this French copper sauteuse to the early 19th century, approximately c. 1800–1840, based on its hand-forged iron handle, two-rivet attachment, flared form and hand-worked construction. Unmarked, as expected for French cookware of this period.

Why we love this…

With the exceptional ability to conduct heat efficiently, copper cookware promotes precision and excellence in cooking. Traditional tin lined interiors are virtually non-stick when used correctly. Cooking with copper is the best option for everything from sauces to slowly cooked stews, braising and oven gratins. It is unbeatable for confiture and pastry making.
