Set of Two – Les Marchandes - Paris Plates with Antique Tin Frames
Set of Two – Les Marchandes - Paris Plates with Antique Tin Frames
A rare pair of 19th-century French faïence plates depicting traditional street merchants, framed in their original tin mounts. These plates carry exceptional character, with one signed Saint-Clément and the tin stamped Établissement La Fontaine – Paris along with “99” (for the tin) and Etam Europe.
The vibrant hand-colored engravings—Marchande de Légumes (vegetable seller) and Marchand de vieux habits (used clothing seller)—capture everyday Parisian life of the era. The protective tin frames, a common practice at the time, not only enhance their presence but also explain their remarkable survival.
Set of two faïence plates with tin frames.
Diameter: 20 cm each.
Signed Saint-Clément France and stamped tin by Établissement La Fontaine – Paris.
Motifs: vegetable seller and used clothing merchant.
Original hangers intact, ready to display.

As with all vintage and antique items, please look closely at the details in the images. We note breakage or chips if apparent, but the patina which is inherent of age, or wear from 50-100+ years of existence and use -- is assumed for older pieces and is not considered a flaw or defect.
