French Pewter Covered Tureen
French Pewter Covered Tureen
Old pewter is one of those things that feels completely at home in a French country kitchen. This covered tureen has two simple side handles, its original lid and plenty of age and patina. I love it mixed in with old ironstone, copper and everyday pieces collected over time.
Dimensions: approx. 28 cm tall with cover × 12 cm diameter
Origin: France; heavy pewter construction with stamped marks
Dating & attribution: believed to date to the late 1800s/early 1900s. Dating and origin are based on the stamps, construction, form and patina and are approximate unless otherwise documented.
While no longer recommended for serving food, it is a wonderful way to bring a genuine piece of 19th-century French history into everyday living. (In my home you would find it holding a baby-tears fern in my salle de bain or filled with autumn blooms is a rustic floral display.)
Why we love this…
“Both charming and functional, vintage pieces can add just the right authentic French touch to your kitchen or home”.

As with all vintage and antique items, please look closely at the details in the images. We note breakage or chips if apparent, but the patina which is inherent of age, or wear from 50-100+ years of existence and use -- is assumed for older pieces and is not considered a flaw or defect.
