Set of Two Vintage Gien Porcelain Oyster Plates

Set of Two Vintage Gien Porcelain Oyster Plates

$48.00

These vintage porcelain plates have been part of French dining since the 18th century, designed to cradle each oyster and its briny liquor. (an example in image 2). A small well in the center is just right for mignonette — the classic mix of shallots, pepper, and vinegar that adds a bright finish. Oysters remain a New Year’s eve traditional starter. Still as useful today as they were centuries ago, they bring both tradition and charm to any festive meal.

Details:

  • Vintage white porcelain - 25 cm in diameter.

  • Holds six oysters with a small mignonette well.

  • Historical design dating to 18th-century France.

  • Perfect for oyster season or year-round seafood dinners.

Why we love this…

“Both charming and functional, vintage pieces can add just the right authentic French touch to your kitchen or home”.

  • As with all vintage and antique items, please look closely at the details in the images. We note breakage or chips if apparent, but the patina which is inherent of age, or wear from 50-100+ years of existence and use -- is assumed for older pieces and is not considered a flaw or defect.

  • We ship to worldwide destinations with express international shipping using FedEx. As of April 2025, the U.S. government introduced updated trade regulations that may apply duties to some imported goods — including vintage and antique items. These are government-imposed fees, entirely separate from shipping costs or any Rabbit Hill charges. In most cases duties are invoiced by the carrier (FedEx) who collects on the behalf of US Customs.

Small items can be combined in one package and this sometimes provides a savings in shipping as long as they are calculated in the same order invoice.

  • All items that I sell are acquired in France and ship from France. All purchases are packed and shipped with extreme care.  Because I adore everything I sell, I fully describe every item and welcome any questions about dimensions, condition or origin. ALL SALES ARE FINAL. Every item in the shop has a detailed description and images and dimensions if applicable, along with a statement of condition (if vintage or antique) and use instructions (home goods). Read please carefully before purchasing.
