Pair of Antique French Louis XVI/Neoclassical Revival style Silver-Plated Candlesticks
A beautiful pair of antique French candlesticks with tapered fluted stems, circular stepped bases and finely reeded borders. Their smaller size makes them especially lovely for a dining table, mantel or bedside tables, either with candles or simply displayed on their own.
Dimensions: 16 cm tall × 9 cm base diameter
Material: Silver-plated metal
Dating & attribution: France, late 19th century, Louis XVI/Neoclassical Revival style. The undersides bear small impressed marks that have not been identified. Age is assessed through the form, construction, materials, workmanship, decorative style and natural signs of age and use.
They are Louis XVI / Neoclassical Revival in design: tapered fluted stems, stepped circular bases and repeated fine gadrooned/reeded borders around both the bases and bobèches. That combination is extremely characteristic of this style and period. The central threaded rod-and-nut construction is consistent with old multi-part candlestick construction; documented 18th-century French examples specifically note threaded multi-piece mounting. The pair shows natural surface wear and some loss to the silver plating consistent with age and use.
