Antique French Porcelain Footed Bowl
A beautiful antique French porcelain pedestal bowl with a scalloped rim and hand-applied gold trim. Made for presenting fruit or desserts at the table, its generous 23 cm bowl is equally lovely piled with seasonal fruit—plums in late summer, pears and apples in autumn, or citrus through the winter.
Dimensions: 23 cm diameter × 13 cm tall
Material: White porcelain with gilt decoration
Dating & attribution: France, late 19th to early 20th century or c. 1900. The form closely follows French high-footed porcelain compotiers produced during this period; the faint impressed underside number appears to be a production or size mark rather than an identifiable maker's mark. Age is assessed through the form, construction, materials, workmanship, decorative style and natural signs of age and use.
The slight irregularities in the form are characteristic of its manufacture and give the piece a lovely handmade quality. The gold trim shows natural wear consistent with age. The Inventaire Général documents high-footed white porcelain compotiers by Charles Pillivuyt & Cie with a polylobed/scalloped dish and matching shaped pedestal, dating to the last quarter of the 19th through the early first quarter of the 20th century.
