The classic cocktail shaker is the hallmark of 20th-century entertaining — the tool that brought martinis, sidecars, and champagne cocktails into the world of refined hospitality. The American martini pitcher, slightly earlier in origin and beloved in the 1920s–30s, was designed for “stirred, not shaken” drinks. Stirring chills the liquor while keeping the texture silky, allowing the aromatics of gin or vodka to remain intact. Together, they represent the two great traditions of martini culture.
