French Bistrot Coffee & Tea Pot
A charming piece of French café history in the rich brown glaze so closely associated with old bistrots and brasseries. These hardworking ceramic pots were made for brewing generous quantities of coffee and tea, used day after day behind the counter and replaced when they eventually chipped or broke—which makes finding a complete example increasingly difficult.
This one includes two different perforated filters and a single lid, allowing the pieces to be stacked in different configurations for coffee or loose-leaf tea. We especially love the deep chestnut-brown glaze for autumn and winter tables—perfect for a long Sunday breakfast, an afternoon pot of tea or serving coffee after a cozy dinner.
Dimensions: Pot approximately 14 cm tall and just under 30 cm handle to spout; large brown filter 10.5 cm diameter × 15 cm tall; white filter approximately 12 cm diameter; lid 12 cm diameter - 4-6 mugs or cups of tea or coffee.
Material: Glazed ceramic
Dating & attribution: France, early to mid-20th century; traditional commercial café, bistrot and brasserie ware. The pot and larger filter bear the matching impressed size number 9. Pieces of this type were produced as practical working ceramics for the hospitality trade and were not necessarily individually maker-marked. Age is assessed through the form, construction, materials, workmanship, decorative style and natural signs of age and use.
In very good vintage condition, particularly considering its utilitarian origins. There is a minute area of wear at the pouring spout, perceptible to the touch but not readily visible; no cracks.
