French Copper Flared Sauteuse

French Copper Flared Sauteuse

$255.00

A classic French copper sauteuse with flared sides and a long iron handle. The smaller base and wide opening make this a particularly useful shape for slow simmering, sauces, risotto and dishes cooked gently in liquid.

  • Approximately 25.5 cm diameter at the top × 20 cm base

  • Solid copper with riveted iron handle; professionally restored and newly tinned

  • Slightly rounded, hand-formed base characteristic of early copper cookware; not intended to sit perfectly flat on modern electric or induction-style ranges, but well suited to gas or a traditional/professional flat-top plaque

Dating & attribution: France, early 20th century, approximately c. 1900–1920. The subtly rounded base, rather than a perfectly flat machine-formed bottom, together with the riveted iron handle and overall construction, supports an early date.

Why we love this…

With the exceptional ability to conduct heat efficiently, copper cookware promotes precision and excellence in cooking. Traditional tin lined interiors are virtually non-stick when used correctly. Cooking with copper is the best option for everything from sauces to slowly cooked stews, braising and oven gratins. It is unbeatable for confiture and pastry making.
