Early 1800s French Copper Daubière with Long Forged Handle

Early 1800s French Copper Daubière with Long Forged Handle

$425.00

This is the kind of old French copper that I am always looking for. From the early 1800s, this daubière was built for slow cooking, with an oblong shape, snug-fitting cover and long forged iron handle. It was made for the ovens and hearths of another time, but more than 200 years later, it is still very much at home in the kitchen. Use it for a long braise or slow-cooked stew, then bring the whole thing straight to the table.

  • Dimensions: approx. 27 × 17 × 11 cm; forged iron handle extends an additional 20 cm

  • Origin: France; hand-worked copper with forged iron handle, copper rivets, fitted copper cover and tin-lined interior

  • Dating & attribution: early 1800s. Dating is approximate and based on the hand-worked construction, forged handle and fittings, copper rivets, form and other signs of early artisan manufacture.
