Antique French White Porcelain Apothecary Jar
A large antique white porcelain apothecary jar with a beautifully simple shape and its original domed lid. Originally made for pharmacy storage, its generous size and unadorned white porcelain make it equally useful today for kitchen or bathroom storage, or simply displayed on an open shelf. Dimensions: 22 cm tall without lid × 28 cm tall with lid; 10 cm opening; 12 cm base
Material: Glazed white porcelain
Dating & attribution: France, 19th century. The base and lid bear impressed production numbers, Inside the lids: 10212 /On the bases: 10214. Age is assessed through the form, construction, materials, workmanship, decorative style and natural signs of age and use.
In very good antique condition with natural irregularities and signs of use consistent with age. No cracks. The form, scale and construction correspond closely with documented 19th-century French pharmaceutical porcelain. BADA documents covered French porcelain pharmacy jars from the 19th century, while French specialist examples around 26 cm high are attributed to late-19th-century pharmacy use.
