Antique French Porcelain Openwork Fruit Basket
A beautiful white porcelain fruit basket with an openwork design made to resemble woven wicker. Raised on a molded pedestal with leaf decoration, it is a lovely piece for fruit on the table and equally pretty displayed on its own.
Dimensions: 18 cm diameter bowl, 15 cm tall
Material: White porcelain
Dating & attribution: France, 19th century, in the tradition of Porcelaine de Paris. Age is assessed through the form, construction, materials, workmanship, decorative style and natural signs of age and use.
French porcelain baskets and display pieces imitating woven wicker have been documented in Paris Musées as Sèvres openwork woven-basket forms dating circa 1825, while French museum collections document the form even earlier. Other French 19th-century examples are documented as multi-part constructions joined by a metal threaded rod/nut as seen in the images. Please note that there is a non-visible chip in the top of the base, not visible when displayed or in use.

As with all vintage and antique items, please look closely at the details in the images. We note breakage or chips if apparent, but the patina which is inherent of age, or wear from 50-100+ years of existence and use -- is assumed for older pieces and is not considered a flaw or defect.
