Antique French White Covered Tureen
A beautiful large French provincial style white tureen with openwork scroll handles and a matching scroll finial on the domed lid. Its generous size makes it wonderful for serving at the table, while the simple white glaze lets all of the molded details stand out. In excellent antique condition.
Dimensions: 27 cm diameter × 14 cm tall without lid × 24 cm tall with lid; approximately 37 cm handle to handle
Material: Glazed white ceramic
Dating & attribution: France, late 19th to early 20th century, with Rococo/Louis XV–inspired molded decoration. Unmarked. Age is assessed through the form, construction, materials, workmanship, decorative style and natural signs of age and use.
Additional information: The broad unglazed foot, heavier molded construction and overall appearance are more consistent with French faïence fine/ironstone-type tableware. White French tureens with lobed bodies and elaborate molded handles were produced by several major manufacturers in the later 19th century; documented examples from Gien and Creil-et-Montereau show the same general tradition, while French museum collections document white porcelain tureens of related form in the same period.

As with all vintage and antique items, please look closely at the details in the images. We note breakage or chips if apparent, but the patina which is inherent of age, or wear from 50-100+ years of existence and use -- is assumed for older pieces and is not considered a flaw or defect.
