French Porcelaines Avignon Mortar Bowl
An extra-large French ironstone porcelain mortar bowl by Porcelaines Avignon, made from heavy porcelaine à feu for serious kitchen or utility use. Its generous size makes it especially useful today as a mixing bowl for mayonnaise, dressings, sauces, batters or custards, while the pouring spout makes transferring mixtures easy. (Whisk shown for styling only.)

Dating & attribution: Porcelaines Avignon, France, 20th century, c.1900 based on the mark. The exterior bears the firm's green circular Made in France / Porcelaine à Feu mortar emblem.
Porcelaines Avignon was founded at Bruère-Allichamps in 1870. Age is assessed through the form, construction, materials, workmanship, decorative style and natural signs of age and use. There is a small chip at the pouring spout.
